The partner for this June program is silent green. The film killer.berlin.doc by Bettina Ellerkamp and Jörg Heitmann will be presented: Driven by a desire to tell the story of their own lives in a changing city, 10 people decide to turn their lives into fiction for two weeks. They play “Killer,” a game, in which no one knows about the others and everyone is both perpetrator and victim. Killer.berlin.doc. was created in the context of the squatter movements that arose after the fall of the Berlin Wall and was an expression of the attempt to reclaim cultural spaces in a radically changing environment. Today, the filmmakers run silent green, a new cultural space in a historic building in Berlin’s Wedding district. After the screening, they will speak with Daniel Wesener, a member of the Berlin House of Representatives and spokesperson for cultural funding for the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group, about urban development and culture since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The discussion will be moderated by cultural studies scholar Annette Maechtel, whose research focuses on Berlin as a political and discursive space. (Stefanie Schulte Strathaus)
